This recorded webinar will familiarize building officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, contractors, raters and others in the construction industry with the amendments to the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code® (IECC) that comprise the 2023 Illinois Residential Stretch Energy Code. The session will focus on the key amendments in the residential provisions, reasoning behind the changes, and the impact these changes have on the implementation and enforcement of the energy code.

This course is eligible for AIA and ICC continuing education units.

The session will focus on the key amendments in the commercial provisions, reasoning behind the changes, and the impact these changes have on the implementation and enforcement of the energy code. Attendees will also receive links to resources and other support needed for stretch energy code adoption.

Smart Technology: Driving Efficiency in Chicago's Existing Buildings

Join Illinois Green Alliance, BOMA/Chicago, and the Building Energy Hub to explore how smart building technologies are being implemented at the local level to reduce carbon emissions, improve efficiency, and save building owners money.

During this 60-minute recorded session, learn about the application of a Very High Efficiency (VHE) HVAC pilot to replace an original 1957 natural gas steam boiler and multiple air conditioning systems. Project team members will discuss the challenges to design a system that could provide even temperatures and full ventilation to all parts of the building and meet the environmental goals of the Temple. The project team will also share their experience incorporating an energy recovery system into the ventilation system, allowing 100%, highly filtered outside air to be brought in and give Temple occupants fresh air for the first time in decades.

This event included a 60-minute webinar primer on ComEd's Very High Efficiency (VHE) HVAC pilot featuring a case study example of this retrofit at Oak Park Temple in Oak Park, Illinois. The webinar was followed by an in-person tour of the temple later that day. The Decarb Tech Series is an educational series of the Building Energy Hub, in partnership with Illinois Green Alliance. The series features technology innovations that support building retrofits and decarbonization efforts across the industry.

The 2022 Chicago Energy Transformation Code, based on the 2021 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code, applies to projects where the first permit application is started on or after November 1, 2022. Additional requirements of this code will apply to projects where the first permit application is started on or after January 1, 2023.
