New on The Building Energy Pod

In this episode, we sat down with Paul Sambanis, PhD, Vice President of Sustainability at Sloan, to dig into the water-energy nexus, smart plumbing retrofits, and water's overlooked role in building performance. He walked through the fixture retrofit at Wrigley Field—one of Chicago's oldest and busiest venues—and showed how older buildings can cut water use, energy, and risk without major structural changes.

Sachin Anand, Principal at dbHMS, joined us to explore innovative approaches to green building design, code compliance, and energy efficiency. He recalled his experience working on the Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC)—Chicago’s first Living Building Challenge certified school—and used the project as a case study to highlight how a project team can integrate the building systems into the school's curriculum.

Shining a Light on Energy Efficiency: The Implications of Solar as an EE Measure
Hosted by Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance
August 12 | Virtual

Is customer-sited rooftop solar generation the next big energy efficiency measure? Texas, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts include rooftop solar as an energy efficiency (EE) measure in limited ways. Illinois has an open docket considering whether customer sited solar photovoltaic (PV) systems could be added to the TRM as an EE measure. Our traditional definitions of EE focus on reducing energy consumption, irrespective of the generation source. If certain states expand their definition of EE to include solar PV, what might this mean for the future of EE? Come join MEEA’s Policy Team as they share recent research into these questions.
